The $200,000 promised by the State last fall to help pay for the Pearson Peninsula project at Lake Sara has been received.

Lake Sara Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman Tom Ryan Wednesday said the payment was received from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources by the Effingham Water Authority.

We had reported Tuesday that local officials were still waiting on the funds that had been promised last fall. An IDNR official said they were waiting on release of the funds and that the payment had been delayed by the pandemic.

On Wednesday, the Water Authority received the funds.

The goal is that Phase 1 of the multi-phase peninsula improvement project will have a Memorial Day opening.
