The annual campaign designed to benefit Effingham Public Library had a successful 2020.

Library Director Amanda McKay said over $22,000 was raised. The funds will be used on the library building, but also to update technology at the library.

The Board discussed Cards for Kids legislation passed in Illinois last summer. The program is to insure all kids can gain access to their local library. Those whose families might not have the income to purchase a library card will be able to obtain a free card. The library is looking to target income-eligible young people in the Effingham, St. Anthony, Teutopolis and Dieterich schools.

Library board members also discussed the proposed fiscal year budget and the library's plan of service for 2021. A staff retention program is being developed to recognize employees for longevity.

Also discussed was the library's action plan for 2021, which will involve several items carried over from 2020 due to the pandemic, while the Board approved HR policies regarding COVID benefits and protections.
