Cumberland School District Gets Through Semester w/No Shutdowns

Cumberland school officials took time at their monthly meeting to celebrate completing the first semester of the school year with no interruptions due to COVID-19.
Cris Ingram from the Cumberland County Health Department was present to thank school officials for the work done to maintain safety and continue education.
It was decided that if a student wants to return to in-person instruction, they may do so on January 5, the start of the third quarter.
Cumberland Superintendent Todd Butler plans to send a mass text to all members of the district about plans to continue instructional days on Monday through Thursday, with Fridays remaining for remote learning.
Cumberland board members passed the fiscal year tax levy, and approved a $50,000 property tax abatement in keeping with a pledge at the time of considering a 1% sales tax initiative. The board also renewed Worker's Compensation insurance coverage with Star Insurance.
The Board approved Leigh Staley's request for maternity leave and unpaid leave of absence through May 20, and employed Dawn Peters as school nurse and Patti Sanders as a grade school cook.
