Stewardson-Strasburg school board members Thursday acted on a number of personnel matters for next year.
The Board dismissed Judi Bone and Heather Piper as part-time teacher aides and dismissed Judi Bone and Mary Miller as part-time teachers. Piper was then hired as a full-time Special Education teacher and Special Education Collaborative so she can work with students with special needs, filling a vacancy being created by a retirement this year.
The changes allow the Stew-Stras board and administration to explore busing Early Childhood students to a half-day program offered at Neoga. Stewardson-Strasburg and Neoga are looking at co-operating on educational programs next school year to save on teacher costs. Both the Neoga and Stew-Stras boards will vote on the co-operative agreement at their April meetings.
The Stew-Stras Board also dismissed full-time teacher Elizabeth Spain as of the end of the school year.
Board members approved an agreement with FGM Architects to oversee work to replace the facia around the high school gym. The district received a maintenance grant to help cover the cost of the work.
Stewardson-Strasburg district residents are reminded of two informational meetings regarding the education fund tax levy increase that will be on the April 9 election ballot. The meetings will begin at 7pm on Tuesday, April 2 at the Stewardson Community Building and on Thursday, April 4 at the Strasburg Community Building.
Stew-Stras Superintendent Steven Harsy said the meetings will be more informal than the community meeting held at the school earlier this year. Citizens can drop by to get their questions answered and leave when they wish.
