Monday was the first day of filings for the April 2021 election.

The Effingham County Clerk's office is receiving filings for school board races. First day filings there included three hopefuls for the Altamont Unit 10 School Board. The three are Dale Laue, Alan Shumaker and Scott Beal.

There was also a filing for the Teutopolis Unit 50 School Board. The person who filed is Michael Ritchie.

There were also two first day filings for the Lake Land Board of Trustees. The two who filed are the current office holders; Gary Cadwell of Mode and Tom Wright of Dieterich.

The April election will also see the choosing of one member on the Effingham Park Board. Ron Mietzner, the incumbent, has said he is not seeking re-election.

Several municipalities will also fill seats on their boards in April, although Effingham and Altamont city council members are in mid-term in 2021.

The filing period for the April election ends Monday, December 21, although township candidates will be filed with the County Clerk's office later this month.
