No injuries resulted from a crash involving an Amtrak passenger train and a SUV south of Mattoon Thursday morning.

Mattoon City Police reported the crossing was lighted and gated. The eastbound SUV went around the downed crossing arm and into the path of the northbound Amtrak train. Police report the contact with the train spun the SUV off the tracks. Neither the driver nor a passenger in the SUV were injured, nor were any of the 30 people aboard the train hurt.

The crash happened at 9:55am on the crossing on Old State Road, west of US Route 45 on the south side of Mattoon.

The driver of the SUV, whose name was not available from Mattoon police, was cited for going around the downed gate.
