76,579 Deer Taken in 2020 Illinois Firearm Hunting Season

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has announced a preliminary total of 76,579 deer were taken by hunters during the seven-day 2020 Illinois Firearm Deer Season that concluded Sunday. That's up from 75,417 deer taken during the 2019 firearm season.

The preliminary harvest for the second segment of the firearm season was 29,432, compared with 25,176 during the second season in 2019. The preliminary harvest for the first segment of this year's firearm season was 47,147 deer.

There were 945 deer harvested in Effingham County during the firearm season, up from 888 last year. There were 611 taken during the first weekend, 334 during the second weekend.

As far as area counties:

CLAY--1,216 taken this year, compared to 1,098 last year

COLES--672 taken this year, compared to 621 last year

CUMBERLAND--856 taken this year, compared to 772 last year

FAYETTE--1,610 taken this year, compared to 1,514 last year

JASPER--1,077 taken this year, compared to 1,031 last year

SHELBY--1,241 taken this year, compared to 1,116 last year
