Details on Two Crashes from Earlier This Month in City

Effingham City Police have released details on two crashes that occurred earlier this month.

Both of the crashes occurred on Wednesday, December 2.

One of the crashes happened just after 8:30am on West Route 40 at Outer Belt West. A vehicle driven by 90-year-old Geraldine Helm of Altamont turned into the path of, and was struck by, a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Samuel Landin of St. Elmo. 

A passenger in Landin's vehicle, 65-year-old Rose Landin of St. Elmo, was injured and was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Helm was also injured but she declined treatment.

Helm was cited for failure to yield.

The other crash occurred west of the intersection of Banker and Fayette at 2:20pm. An Effingham Unit 40 school bus driven by 60-year-old Teresa Fuesting of Mason rear-ended a Unit 40 bus driven by 70-year-old Denise Willenborg of Effingham.

Both buses were transporting students at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported.

No citations were issued.
