Two men found in possession of weapons were taken into custody this week by Effingham County sheriff's deputies.

28-year-old Matthew D. Lane of Danville and 25-year-old Dillon C. Cagle of LeRoy were arrested following a traffic stop just after 1am Wednesday. Effingham County Chief Deputy Sheriff Paul Kuhns said a vehicle containing the two was stopped along the Dieterich/Montrose Blacktop, about a mile south of Montrose. Kuhns said the deputy spotted a gun inside the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle where methamphetamine and another gun were located.

Both Lane and Cagle were taken into custody without incident. Lane was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and a warrant out of Fountain County, Indiana, while Cagle was arrested on counts of armed violence, possession of a firearm, defacing the ID marks on a firearm, and possession of methamphetamine.

Both men are due in court for their preliminary hearings on December 15.
