Local St. Rep. Darren Bailey is requesting that Governor J.B. Pritzker use his authority to call the General Assembly into session to address what he says is a growing number of issues that need input from Illinois residents.

The scheduled fall veto session was called off due to COVID-19 concerns with suggestions it take place before the new General Assembly convenes in January.

Bailey said how the state deals with the coronavirus outbreak in some veterans facilities, continuing problems with the state Department of Employment Security handling unemployment payments, job losses due to business closures, and the backlog in FOID card renewals are issues needing addressed.

Bailey said his dispute continues with Pritzker in court over the governor's use of executive orders, but said there's no disputing Pritzker has the authority to call the legislature into session "to do the work of the people".
