Two people were injured in a crash involving a semi-trailer truck just after 5am Wednesday near Effingham.
Illinois State Police report the rig was westbound on I-70, just west of Effingham, when the crash occurred just after 5am. The semi ran off the roadway to the left and struck a guardrail. The rig then entered the median and overturned, striking an IDOT overhead message board.
The driver of the rig, 37-year-old Markell McCottrell of St. Louis, and a passenger, 41-year-old Christopher Lindsey of St. Louis, were taken to the hospital for treatment of what were termed non-life threatening injuries.
McCottrell was cited for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
