Clay County Clerk Brenda Britton has announced her plans to retire.
Britton's retirement is effective December 31. She was elected clerk in 2006 after Phyllis Miller's retirement, but has worked in the clerk's office for 25 years.
Clay County Board Chairman Ted Whitehead announced the upcoming vacancy and asked for representatives of the political parties to submit names of possible replacements.
The Board also recognized departing member John Weidner, who was defeated for re-election earlier this month after eight years on the Board.
Board members also approved an agreement with HLR, Incorporated for the design of a bridge carrying Mallard Lane over Lucas Creek.
