Effingham Park Board members Wednesday voted to increase prices for 2021 at Kluthe Memorial Pool at Hendelmeyer Park.
Park District Director Jeff Althoff said the big consideration is the coming increase in minimum wage, which he says will mean an additional $10,000 in expenses.
The family pool pass will now cost $225, up from $145.
An individual pool pass will cost $80, up from $75.
The general admission price will now be $7.00, up from $5.50.
Althoff noted that even if the pool saw the same attendance in 2021 seen in 2019, the last year the pool operated, the district wouldn’t cover its expenses without the price increases.
One bright spot, Althoff noted, is that there won’t be a need for new pool chemicals as they can use those purchased for the 2020 season that were never used.
The Park Board also approved an estimated tax levy totaling $1,292,637, about $60,000 more than last year’s levy. Action to pass the levy will come at the Board’s December meeting.
Althoff reported that a rise in Covid-19 cases and warmer weather has slowed attendance, memberships are holding steady at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex.
The Board also indicated its support of changes being proposed by the City of Effingham in the makeup of two Tax Increment Financing districts.
