In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Vandalia CUSD #203 schools say they're taking an "adaptive pause" to curb the spread of COVID-19 that's been happening throughout the district.

Since the beginning of the week, Superintendent Jennifer Garrison says over 20 staff members are out due to the virus, and that number is expected to rise. Those numbers reportedly involve COVID positive, those quarantined due to close contact, or out with other illnesses.

The district, including OKAW, will shift to remote learning beginning Thursday, November 5 through Tuesday, November 24. The partnership at the YMCA and Unity Baptist Church are also suspended until the district returns to in-class learning.

Garrison said school resume with the district's hybrid model on Monday, November 30 after the Thanksgiving break, and urged families to keep their children at home if they are sick, in an effort to reduce community spread of the virus.
