Jasper County

There was only one contested race in Jasper County.

One incumbent in the District 1 race was defeated for re-election. Newcomer Michael Geier was the top vote getter with 1,204 votes. The incumbent re-elected, Ron Swick, received 416 votes.

The incumbent who did not win another term, Gary Michl, received 405 votes, 11 fewer votes than Swick.

 

Cumberland County

There were no local contested races Tuesday in Cumberland County.

Donald Trump received just shy of 80% of the vote count in the county.

On the progressive income tax question, 83% of Cumberland County voters said No.

 

Fayette County

Fayette County has one contested local race on Tuesday. 

In County Board District 4, Republican Douglas Knebel defeated Democrat Ryan Holliday 946-320.

Write-in candidate Ashley Towler won the County Board District 6 race, running unopposed.

Jessica Barker, who was appointed County Clerk when her predecessor retired, was elected to fill out the remainder of the term, receiving 9,054 votes.

The progressive income tax proposal received an 80% No vote.

Donald Trump received 79% of the vote for President. Mary Miller received 78% of the vote for 15th District Congress.

 

Clay County

Clay County voters Tuesday were overwhelmingly Republican in their decision making.

There were two contested races. In the contest for Clay County Coroner, Republican Bryce Henry was elected with 4,542 votes to 2,111 votes for People’s Party candidate Lori Feldhake.

In the race for Clay County Board District F, Republican Tara Bangert received 405 votes to 106 votes for Democrat John Weidner.

In the Progressive Income Tax question, Clay County voters said No 5,588 to Yes 1,007.

 

Shelby County

The busiest area county as far as number of contested local races Tuesday was Shelby County.

In the race for County Coroner, Republican Brad Phegley defeated Democrat Tom Coventry 7,844 to 3,864. Phegley will succeed Brian Green, who did not seek re-election after more than 30 years in office.

Democrat Kari Ann Kingston was elected Circuit Clerk, defeating Republican write-in candidate Pam Helton.

There were a number of contests for Shelby County Board.

Rod Hite defeated Louis Jordan in District 1, 564-533.

Earl Baker defeated Dan Koons in District 4, 715-427.

Don Tate defeated Joe Conder for an unexpired term in District 6, 862-249.

Paul Canaday defeated LaVonne Chaney for a full term in District 10, 669-397.

In the race for a two-year unexpired term in District 10, John Pogue defeated Candi Ditzler, 655-410.
