It’s a mixed bag in area counties in Election Day. Some have several races while some have hardly any contests.

Fayette County has a contested county board in District 4. Republican Doug Knebel is taking on Democrat Ryan Holliday. Ashley Towler is a write-in candidate, and the only candidate, for County Board District 6. The previous county clerk retired in mid-term, so her successor, Jessica Barker, is the sole candidate for the office.

Clay County has a contest for Coroner, as Republican Bryce Henry is taking on People’s Party candidate Lori Feldhake. In County Board District F, Republican Tara Bangert squares off against Democrat John Weidner.

Shelby County has the busiest ballot. There are contested County Board races in Districts 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 and 11, as well as a contest for an unexpired two-year term in District 10. There are two board members per district in Shelby County. There is a contest for Circuit Clerk with Democrat Kari Ann Kingston taking on Republican write-in candidate Pam Helton. With Brian Green finally retiring after more than 30 years, the contest for Coroner is between Democrat Tom Coventry and Republican Brad Phegley.

In contrast, there are no contests in Cumberland County.

Jasper County was still finalizing things late on Monday so information was not available.
