Tuesday the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 6,516 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, with 68 additional deaths.

The daily number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been over 6,000 for seven days in a row.

Governor JB Pritzker says the pandemic doesn’t seem to be letting up. “The virus is spreading and every region of the state is suffering from its insidious invisible contagion.  For perspective, this is one of the worst single week increases in regional positivity across the state since the spring,” said Pritzker.

Health officials continue to urge the public to follow safety guidelines to help lower positivity rates by wearing face masks, practicing social distancing, and avoiding large gatherings.
