The Altamont Board of Education has voted to seek a new superintendent of schools.
The Board voted at a special meeting Monday night to hire the Illinois Association of School Boards to conduct a superintendent search. Altamont School Board President Shelly Kuhns said the IASB will begin its work this month. Kuhns said the goal is to fill the position effective at the end of current Superintendent Steve Mayerhofer's term on June 30, 2021.
The motion to search for a new superintendent was the only matter of business undertaken at the special meeting.
Mayerhofer was hired in 2018 to succeed Jeff Fritchtnitch after Fritchtnitch departed to become superintendent of the Mt. Vernon school district.
