An Effingham High School student was injured Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash just west of town.
18-year-old Tristin Duncan of Effingham was traveling on West Evergreen Road, three-quarters of a mile east of Nazarene Church Road, when he lost control of his eastbound vehicle going down the hill. Duncan's car began to spin as he went downhill and was facing westbound as the car collided with a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Gautamkymar Patel of Effingham. Duncan's car then left the roadway and came to rest at the bottom of the hill, while Patel's vehicle came to rest on the edge of the roadway.
Duncan was initially taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana.
Patel was not injured.
Duncan was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
The crash happened at 6:13pm.
