Fire destroyed a barn in the Bishop Creek community Monday evening.

Dieterich firefighters were called just after 6pm to the barn. A number of animals inside the barn were removed unharmed. No one was injured.

Dieterich Fire Chief Ross Martin said the cause of the fire is not known, but said the barn was a total loss.

Fire companies from Teutopolis, Montrose and Effingham assisted Dieterich firefighters at the scene, while fire companies from Wade and Watson Fire Protection Districts staffed the Dieterich station in case of another fire call.

Martin said they had the fire under control within 30 minutes. He said the cause of the fire has not been determined. Firefighters cleared the scene about 8pm.
