Former Effingham Mayor Charles "Chuck" Stevens has died. He was 80.
(CHARLES "CHUCK" STEVENS)
Following two terms on the Effingham City Plan Commission, Stevens was elected mayor in 1979 and was re-elected in 1983. He did not seek a third term.
Stevens took over operation of Stevens Hardware from his parents upon his return to Effingham from the miltary and began operating Stevens True Valu and Stevens Florals.
Several years ago, Stevens and wife Nancy relocated to Fountain Hills, Arizona.
Celebrations of Life are planned later this year in Fountain Hills and in the Spring of 2021 in Effingham.
