Effingham city police say no one was injured when a firearm accidentally discharged in a residence in the south part of town Thursday night.

The call came at 7:34pm at a residence in Four Seasons Mobile Home Park. City police Shift Commander Troy Bloemker said a man was loading the firearm and the gun jammed. As the man was working to unjam the firearm, it discharged. A shot from the gun went out the wall of the mobile home and through a wall at a residence next door.

Bloemker said police initially dispatched Effingham firefighters since the call from the resident next door indicated popping sounds similar to what you hear in an incident involving a fire.

Again, no one was injured and Bloemker said no harm was intended by the owner of the firearm, who was cited for reckless discharge of the gun.
