Coronavirus 2020

The Illinois Department of Public Health Thursday reported four COVID-related deaths in area counties.

The deaths are those of a male in his 70s in Clay County, a female in her 80s in Coles County, a female in her 70s in Fayette County, and a female in her 90s in Shelby County.

The IDPH reports COVID-19 deaths that represent individuals with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 at the time of death. IDPH also tracks those where the cause of death on the death certificate is listed as COVID-19.

The IDPH  is only reporting laboratory-confirmed cases. If the death of someone who has laboratory confirmed COVID-19 is completely unrelated...for example, car crash, fire, homicide and the like, that death is not included in the case count.
