Fatal Car/Semi Crash in Richland County Wednesday

A Mt. Carmel man was killed when his car collided with a semi in Richland County Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at 5:50am on US Route 50 east, west of Prairieton Road. Illinois State Police report an eastbound car driven by 28-year-old Richard Reed III of Mt. Carmel crossed over into the westbound lane and struck a semi driven by 70-year-old Raymond Kemp of Montgomery, Indiana, head-on. Both units left the roadway and came to rest in the grass ditch between US Route 50 and State Route 250.

Reed was killed in the crash; Kemp was not injured.

No citations were issued.
