Arrest in Death of Wayne County Teen

An Evansville, Indiana man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman initially reported missing from Wayne County in 2014.

24-year-old Brodey Murbarger was arrested Wednesday morning. An Illinois grand jury indicted Murbarger for murder in connection with the disappearance of Megan Nichols.

The investigation was initially handled as a disappearance until 2018 when FBI officials confirmed that a body found in rural Wayne County earlier that year was Nichols, a teenager from Fairfield who had been missing since July 3, 2014. Murbarger also lived in Fairfield at the time of Nichols' death. He was taken into custody at his workplace without incident. He is in custody awaiting extradition back to Illinois.
