One of the counties hardest-hit in the area by COVID-19 has been Coles County.
A group of Coles leaders have joined to urge steps be taken by their residents and workforce to prevent further cases of the disease.
The leaders urge those in the county to follow the 3 W's: wear a mask if you're out in public; wash your hands frequently; and watch your distance by social distancing.
The letter also recommends testing if you are symptomatic, and then isolating yourself if you test positive. Reporting your close contacts to Coles County Health Department is also encouraged.
Among those signing the letter are Lake Land College President Josh Bullock, Eastern Illinois University President David Glassman, Mattoon Mayor Tim Gover, Charleston Mayor Dr. Brandon Combs, and Coles County Board Chairman Mike Zuhone, along with Mattoon School Superintendent Tim Condron and Charleston Superintendent Todd Vilardo.
