The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that over the next week, weather permitting, construction on the I-57/70 project around Effingham will enter the next phase.
The rebuilding of the exit and entrance ramps at Keller Drive and Fayette Avenue will begin and will require some temporary changes in traffic patterns. In an effort to get this phase done as quickly as possible, marked detours will be utilized to divert exiting interstate ramp traffic over the Fayette Avenue and Keller Drive interchanges.
Motorists are asked to slow down, use caution and follow all signs and message boards. Consideration of alternate routes is recommended. During this stage, access to both interchanges will remain open to traffic at all times. Some delays on Keller Drive and Fayette Avenue should be expected.
Questions concerning the project should be directed to IDOT Resident Engineer Steve Miller at 651-788-3958 or Bob Utz at the Effingham IDOT office at 342-3951.
