Woman Found Dead in Apartment Thursday

A local woman was found dead in an Effingham apartment Thursday afternoon.

Effingham City Police Department responded to a welfare check at about 4pm Thursday at 304 South Fifth Street. Upon arrival, officers found the resident in one of the apartments dead. The woman was identified as 53-year-old Terry Keller of Effingham.

Effingham Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit, the Effingham County Coroner's Office, and the Effingham Fire Department all assisted at the scene. 

Keller's body was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Medical records were requested. No autopsy is planned, but toxicology samples were obtained and submittted to the lab for testing.

The incident remains under investigation by the Effingham City Police Department and the Effingham County Coroner's Office.
