Effingham High School and the Effingham Unit #40 School District has canceled the 2020 Homecoming Parade and the Powder Puff football game associated with Homecoming Week.

The events were canceled after it was determined that the current social distancing requirements established by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Effingham County Health Department, and Illinois State Board of Education could not be met.

EHS Principal Kurt Roberts said they would like to reschedule the other Homecoming Week activities to a week in late Winter or early Spring. That would include the daily school activities, the coronation, and the dance associated with Homecoming. Coronation would take place during the halftime of a basketball game or football game, depending on the date established for Homecoming. The dance would take place on the Saturday following a Friday home game.

Roberts said the final dates for these events will be announced later in the Fall as other schedules are still being determined.

The occurrence of the events will be dependent upon the social distancing guidelines in place at the time of the event.
