Two Metro East residents have been arrested following an overnight burglary at Blue Mound Tavern west of Altamont.
49-year-old Craig E. Summers of Belleville and 39-year-old Shaun A. Myers of Caseyville were taken into custody just before 2am Friday by Effingham County sheriff's deputies. The deputies were investigating a burglar alarm at the tavern along US Route 40 near the Effingham-Fayette county line.
(SUMMERS)
The sheriff's office received a report at 1:24am of a commercial burglar alarm at the tavern. While responding, deputies observed a vehicle operating in the area. Deputies stopped the vehicle and Summers, the driver, was later linked to the burglary.
At the tavern, deputies found forced entry via a broken window on the south side of the building. Myers was later apprehended by deputies a short distance south of the tavern in a bean field. Deputies were assisted in the apprehension by Illinois State Police troopers and a State Police K-9 unit.
(MYERS)
Summers and Myers were each charged with a Class 2 felony count of burglary. Both men were in custody at last report. In court Friday, Judge Christopher Matoush set bond for Summers at $150,000 and bond for Myers at $100,000. Both suspects are due back in court Tuesday morning.
Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon praised the collaborative efforts of the deputies and the troopers, stating, "I am proud of the teamwork of all of those involved. Quick thinking and good police work led to the apprehension of the suspects within minutes of the crime being committed."
