Teutopolis Village President Greg Hess reached out to the residents of his community over the weekend regarding COVID-19.

Here is his message:

"A message for all residents in the Teutopolis area.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal indicated that last week, Effingham County had four times the COVID cases per capita as Chicago. To break it down further, of those cases in Effingham County, a disproportionate number were from the Teutopolis area. This would indicate to an uninformed reader that the people of Teutopolis don't care about the health and well-being of its citizens.

This is not who we are.

The citizens of this community have always come together to conquer adversity. If this trend continues, there is a possibility that Teutopolis will be shut down once again. I am asking you all to please follow the guidelines. Wear a mask, wash your hands, practice social distancing and stay away from large crowds. It is a small price to pay to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your fellow citizens."

Greg Hess, Teutopolis Village President.
