The Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals has granted four variances on building projects.

One variance addressed the height of the proposed Sarah Bush Lincoln Bonutti Clinic. The normally-allowed building height is 35 feet, and the northwest corner of the building is projected at 39 feet. The Board voted unanimously to grant a variance for the height to be as high as 40 feet. The facility is to replace structures at 1303 West Evergreen and 1401 West Evergreen.

The Board approved a variance for a rear yard setback for Andrew and Casey Burgholzer at 300 Flamingo Avenue. The Burgholzers plan to remove a deck and replace it with a roofed patio.

Board of Appeals members granted a variance for a front yard fence at 711 West Shelby Avenue. Stephen A. Moore plans an eight-foot wooden stockade style fence at the intersection with Mulberry Street. Members also granted a variance for a front yard fence for the estate of Richard Buening at 203 South Linden Street. Board member Alan Harris voted No on both fence variance requests as the fences were already in place before the variances were sought.
