Body Found in Farm Field Near Effingham/Clay County Line (UPDATE)

Authorities have released information on the death of a man whose body was found Saturday near the Effingham/Clay County line.

Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 officials were requested by the Clay County Sheriff's Office to conduct a death investigation at 13832 First Avenue near Mason. A male subject later identified as 29-year-old Austin D. Woods of Edgewood was found dead on a farm road in rural Clay County. Zone 8 agents and ISP Crime Scene investigators reponded to the scene. On Sunday, an autopsy was performed at Clay County Hospital in Flora to determine the official cause of death.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office is assisting ISP DCI Zone 8 with this investigation that authorities termed "open and ongoing".
