An elderly Effingham resident was injured in a crash along the Altamont blacktop Thursday morning.

The crash happened at 10am a mile south of Moccasin Road. Effingham County sheriff's deputies report 89-year-old Ruth Schnake of Effingham was traveling south on the blacktop when her car left the roadway to the right, causing Schnake to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then came back across the roadway and struck the ditch off the left side and overturned, coming to rest on its side.

A passenger, 89-year-old Raymond Schnake of Effingham, was injured and was airlifted to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Ruth Schnake was cited for no valid driver's license and driving in the wrong lane.
