(THE DOCK DAMAGED WHEN STRUCK BY A BOAT EARLY SATURDAY MORNING)
Details are in on an incident where a boat struck a dock at Lake Sara early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred about 3am Saturday along North Point Trail in the Shumway Cove area of the lake.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reports the boat was operated by 27-year-old Theo Fifer of Effingham. 27-year-old Christian Koerner of Effingham was a passenger in the boat. An Effingham County sheriff's deputy advised that the two were standing on shore. Fifer and Koerner said they were ejected from the boat when it struck the dock. The two swam ashore and climbed out of the water.
After further investigation, Fifer was cited for operating a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol.
The boat, which had capsized, was removed from the lake and transported to Lake Sara Marina.
