The Effingham County Board's Legislative Committee took no action Monday concerning a host agreement for an expanded landfill.

The Board had earlier decided to delay action on the landfill until later this year. However, Landfill 33 owner Brian Hayes has indicated he's moving ahead with a request for a landfill expansion. That led to a decision to place the matter on the committee's agenda in case board members wanted to get a host agreement in place before the filing took place.

However, when the question of bringing the host agreement off the table for consideration Monday, no one made a motion to revisit the issue.

The decision means that the terms of any agreement will be finalized during the public portion of the landfill siting process.

Word that the host agreement was on the committee's agenda brought members of the Borries family, who live east of the landfill, to the meeting as well as members of the Effingham Recycles organization. The County's special attorney on the landfill issue, Jennifer Martin, was also in attendance.

Again, there was no action on the host agreement.
