The Effingham/Effingham County Enterprise Zone Board Wednesday reviewed projects begun in the zone during 2020.

The Enterprise Zone includes incentives to businesses that locate or expand in the zone. Those include sales tax abatements on building materials used on projects within the zone and abatement of property taxes on the improvements begun within the zone.

Enterprise Zone Administrator Sasha Althoff led board members via Zoom on a tour of the projects. The projects include Cash Equipment Canarm, Farmweld Bobcat, Siemer Milling, I-70 Truck Center, Aldi, Russ Braunecker Cadillac-Buick-GMC, Hetzel's Overland Transport, and Kitchens Unlimited.

Althoff said 10 projects have begun this year involving $11,306,170 in investment and the addition of 44 jobs.

The Board chose Effingham County Board Chairman Jim Niemann as chairman and Don Dawkins of 5/3 Bank as vice-chairman.

Dawkins' term on the Board was renewed and will end May 1, 2023. Teutopolis Village President Greg Hess' term will end May 1, 2021, and Jake Buhnerkempe of J&R Collision Centers' term will end May 1, 2022.
