Lane Charged in Cumberland County w/Murder

Westfield resident Tobby Lane has been formally charged with first degree murder in Cumberland County, as well as with a felony count of aggravated domestic battery.

The 44-year-old Lane is charged in the death of Bridget Duncan of Westfield. The 42-year-old Duncan died of her injuries early Wednesday morning at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. The death is believed due to blunt force trauma to the head.

Robbins said the hearing for Lane was held via Zoom, since the Cumberland County Courthouse was closed Thursday after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The Courthouse will also be closed on Friday.

Robbins said he still does not have information as to Duncan's age or address. He said earlier the case originated in Coles County, and said Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 has been heading up the investigation.

Robbins said Lane will next be in court on Monday, August 3 at 10am for a preliminary hearing.
