Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said police received a report of the armed robbery at 2:24am Thursday. The incident reportedly occurred in the 1200 block of North Keller Drive.

McFarland said the initial report is that three subjects, one female and two males, approached an individual on foot. One of the male subjects displayed a knife and threatened the victim. The suspects demanded money, then stole the victim's backpack and contents before smashing the victim's cell phone and leaving the scene. The victim, who was not injured during the incident, went to a service station and notified police.
