One Person Injured in Tuesday Afternoon Crash East of Montrose

One person was injured in a crash involving a car and a semi on I-70 east of Montrose.

The crash happened at 3pm Tuesday halfway between Montrose and Greenup. Illinois State Police report the car driven by 62-year-old Wayne Whalen of Martinsville was eastbound while a semi driven by 22-year-old Ahmed Sankus of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania was westbound.

Police say Whalen lost control of his car in heavy rainfall. The car went through the median area into the westbound lanes. Whalen's car spun in the westbound lanes and was facing westbound. Sankus' semi struck Wayne Whalen's car in the rear.

Whalen was transported to an area hospital with what State Police report were not life-theatening injuries. Sankus declined any treatment.
