Effingham City Council members acted on various items at Tuesday's meeting.
The Council amended the Municipal Code defining parking and loading zones; replatted two lots in National Trail Subdivision; accepted the street oil and chip program for 2020; and approved a plat of Slavens Ridge Subdivision, a three-lot tract of land east of North 3rd Street between Evergreen Avenue and Technology Drive.
City Treasurer Caitlin Phillips reported on city finances for the past quarter. Phillips said sales tax revenues are down but not as severely as was feared with COVID-19's hit on the economy. She said income taxes stayed steady. Phillips said the areas that took a big hit were motel/hotel taxes and motor fuel taxes due to the lack of travel. Special service area tax revenue was also down.
There was discussion of this year's street resurfacing program and a City Hall parking lot project as well as this year's sidewalk replacement program. Some of those programs will be reduced in scope from other years due to a lack of revenue.
