A happy ending for Effingham City Police K-9 Siren, who is safe and back home.

Effingham Police Chief Jason McFarland said Siren lives at Henrietta and St. Anthony and got out of her kennel. McFarland said the padlock on the kennel was still locked when her handler, Officer Jeremy Kyle, got home. Some hair was found at the top of the kennel, so the dog apparently leaped out of the enclosure.

The dog made it south to near Effingham Junior High School where Mallory and Katie Gentry live. Mallory Gentry said she was on her way home from work just after 3 am Monday morning when she came close to hitting Siren near her home. She was able to coax the dog into her possession, and they took her in.

Gentry told us she had been watching social media during the day, hoping to locate her owner. It wasn't until her mother contacted her that she realized she had a police K-9. Her mother had seen a post online that the police dog was missing. Gentry contacted police, and just before 8 pm Monday, Siren was on her way home.

Thanks to everyone who helped in the search for Siren!
