Charleston Male Arrested on Count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault

The Zone 8 Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation has arrested a 22-year-old male from Charleston on a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault.

Scott E.D. Ross was arrested Wednesday following what authorities termed an extensive, cooperative investigation stemming from information initially reported on Monday to the Greenup Police Department. Ross was formally charged with the Class X felony offense by Cumberland County State's Attorney Bryan Robbins on Thursday. The offense is alleged to have occurred in August of 2015. The victim was under age 13 at the time the incident is alleged to have occurred.
Ross' bond was set at $100,000 during a Friday appearance in Cumberland County Circuit Court in Toledo. Ross was being held in Cumberland County Jail at last report. He is due in court for a preliminary hearing August 3.
Greenup police are assisting State Police DCI in the ongoing investigation.
