Deaths Connected to COVID-19 Reported in Effingham County, Cumberland County

The Illinois Department of Public Health Thursday reported COVID-19 related deaths in Effingham County and in Cumberland County.

In both cases, the deaths were those of females in their 80s.

The two deaths were among 25 COVID related deaths reported in Illinois by IDPH on Thursday, along with 1,257 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide. 

The death in Effingham County is the second COVID-19 related death attributed to the county. The death in Cumberland County is that county's first.

As far as the number of positive cases, Shelby County Health Department announced Thursday a 25th positive COVID-19 case. The 18-year-old female is employed at a long-term care facility in an adjoining county and was tested, as part of a screening process at the facility, due to potential exposure.

The positive case numbers by county since records have been kept: Effingham--36, Fayette--30, Shelby--25, Coles--212, Cumberland--31, Jasper--48, Clay--8

As of 2pm Thursday, laboratories in Illinois reported 43,006 specimens in a 24-hour period. 

The percentage of positive tests of all tests taken over the past seven days is at 3.1%.
