Altamont school board members have decided to utilize a contracted food service for the coming school year.

The Board had hired cooks to handle food service until now, but decided at this week's meeting to award a bid to OPAA, one of two vendors who had submittted a proposal. The vendor is used in some other districts in the area.

Also, the Board filled a vacancy in naming Terry Harris as a Board member. Harris succeeds Ross Cornett, who resigned from the Board to take a job with the school district.

Board members awarded HVAC work at Altamont Junior High School to Merz Air Conditioning and Heating of Effingham for $20,433; approved Justin Miller as a district financial consultant on a pay-as-you-go basis; and amended the coming school year calendar to reflect a November 3 holiday.

The Altamont board approved grade school handbook additions in regards to an ejection policy; approved an amendment to benefits for the co-technology coordinator contract; and approved the resignation of Shelby Niehaus as yearbook sponsor.

The Board approved the early start time of 7:30am to 2:00pm for the first semester of the coming school year; approved Phase I of the CARES spending plan; and approved the resignation of Dena Beccue as 5th and 6th grade cheerleading and junior high cheerleading sponsor, then approved Holly Glenn as junior high cheerleading sponsor and Audra Fleeharty as volunteer junior high cheerleading sponsor. The Board also approved the resignation of Linda Hanner as an aide and hired Suzanne Jackson as an aide.
