The state’s minimum wage is now $10 an hour.

A 75 cent increase went into effect at midnight. Business groups and Republicans were asking Democrat Governor JB Pritzker to hold back on the raise that is mandated by law. Pritzker wouldn’t appear to have the power to block an increase and sure doesn’t have any desire to try and do so. Pritzker says an increase in pay isn’t going to be a problem for the workers who yesterday were paid $9.75 an hour.

State law will continue to increase the minimum wage until 2025 when it will be $15 an hour.
