Teutopolis school board members have decided against construction of a weight room for now as part of Phase II construction work at the high school.

The Board this week denied a change order for the new location of a weight room just west of the upgraded restroom and locker room, which is to be located along the west end of the building housing J.H. Griffin Gym.

In other business, the Board approved an agreement allowing for the continued use of EIU students as student teachers and clinical observers for the coming school year; authorized Superintendent Matt Sturgeon to access any and all information at banking institutions where the District does business; approved a consolidated district plan that allows the District to apply for federal grants; and appointed board member Brian Meyer as delegate and board member Leon Gobczynski as alternate to the Eastern Illinois Area Special Education governing board.

The Board approved an amended budget for the current fiscal year; approved renewing property/casualty/liability insurance for the coming school year with Prairie State Insurance Cooperative; and approved insurance package options with Egyptian Trust for the coming school year.

In personnel action, the Teutopolis board accepted retirements or resignations from Jenna Funneman from high school cross country and junior high track; Carrie Copple from junior high track; Zach Repking from junior high basketball; Connie Deters from high school tennis; Taylor Shannon from high school golf; Liz King from high school tennis; Maria Tegeler as high school secretary and athletic secretary; Grant Keller as high school teacher and as high school boys JV basketball coach; and Becky Schumacher as a grade school teacher.

Those hired include Jordan Thoele as a volunteer assistant junior high baseball coach and as assistant junior high basketball coach; Chet Reeder as a summer behind the wheel Driver's Ed instructor; and Nicole McClellan as a grade school teacher. The Board also approved wage and salary increases for non-union employees for the coming fiscal year.
