A man entered a guilty plea Monday to methamphetamine possession as the jury was being selected for his trial.

31-year-old Ryan M. Grant of Macon was also charged in a separate case with meth production, which could have netted a 14-year sentence. Grant entered an open plea to the meth possession count, which means he can receive up to 10 years. He is due to be sentenced on August 17.

Eight of the 12 jurors had been chosen Monday when Grant told his attorney he wanted to enter the guilty plea.

Grant had been arrested last October with 28-year-old Kyrstie Roderick of Beecher City at the Altamont Motel during execution of a search warrant. Altamont police were assisted by the ILEAS SWAT Team in executing the search warrant due to Grant's prior criminal history. Effingham County Sheriff's Department also assisted in the operation. Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said narcotics were found at the location.

Roderick earlier pleaded guilty in the case and was placed on four years' probation including jail time.
