Fatal Crash 2020

An Effingham woman was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70, east of the Brownstown/Bluff City interchange.

The woman killed has been identified as 77-year-old Karen Condron.

Fayette County Coroner David Harris said Condron was traveling westbound when her vehicle left the roadway and crossed through the median. Condron's vehicle continued onto the eastbound lanes and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Harris pronounced Condron dead at the scene.

State police report the other driver, 24-year-old Travis Stroup of New Castle, Indiana, was injured and was transported by ambulance for treatment of what were termed non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in Stroup's vehicle, 25-year-old Courtney Stroup of New Castle, Indiana, was also injured and was taken for treatment.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham to officially determine the cause of Condron's death.

The Fayette County Coroner's Office was assisted by the Illinois State Police and the ISP Accident Reconstruction Unit.
