A Shumway man was injured early Wednesday morning when his motorcycle struck a deer.

The incident happened just before 5am on Illinois Route 33, a quarter-mile east of 600th Street in Liberty Township in the northwest part of the county. Effingham County Sheriff's Department reported 59-year-old Glen Aukamp was traveling east when a deer ran onto the highway. After Aukamp's cycle struck the deer, Aukamp was thrown from the cycle and skidded along the roadway.

Aukamp was transported from the scene to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No citations were issued.
